Downtown Rock Springs urges existing Art Underground Gallery artists to retrieve their artwork by March 31st
The Rock Springs Main Street/Urban Renewal Agency is set to announce an open call for new art submissions for the upcoming exhibition at the Art Underground Gallery, situated in the pedestrian underpass in Downtown Rock Springs. The removal of the existing artwork has already taken place and will make way for a fresh collection.
Artists with work currently showcased in the Art Underground Gallery who wish to reclaim their pieces can do so by contacting the office before March 31. Failure to pick up or reserve artwork by this date will result in the repurposing of pieces for the subsequent fifth round of exhibits in the gallery.
The opening of the Art Underground Gallery took place in the fall of 2015. As Rock Springs Main Street/URA board chairwoman Maria Mortensen notes, "We're presently in our fourth round of artwork, which has been retired and will be replaced with new pieces."
The official Call for Artists will be released later in early April. Prospective participants are advised to keep an eye out for the announcement. During this period, a limited number of primed canvases (2’ by 4’ plywood) will be made available to the community at no cost, on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all canvases have been distributed, entries will no longer be accepted.
The anticipated 2024 installation will be revealed around Memorial Day and will be exhibited in the Art Underground Gallery until the spring of 2026.
